BCR Certification Program

Practitioners in mental health, coaching, teaching, bodywork, activism, and leadership may apply for certification in Body Up Co-Regulation (BCR), at the level they are qualified for. Former, current, and prospective BCR students may choose to begin the certification process.  

The six certification levels are detailed below. Those new to BCR, be sure to view at least a handful of BCR demo videos, attend a workshop, or experience co-regulation practice with someone in your life.  

Certification in BCR can be incorporated into your professional and personal life, to support the capacity, regulation, and well-being of those you share with. 

Please note:

  • Levels I – III are accessible without an advanced degree in the healing professions.
  • Levels IV – VI require an advanced degree in mental health or social work.   
  • Qualified candidates may advance to Level IV upon completion of Level I.
  • Certificants at all levels must sign onto the BCR Values and Code of Ethics.

Certified BCR Peer Teacher  (Level I) – Teach BCR practices one-on-one to your peers: friends, family, and colleagues with intentions for regulation, connection, and self-determined work on the four skills for embodied relating and the nervous system. Certified BCR Coach (Level II) – Teach BCR to your clients/students, with regulatory and skill-building intentions. This is a professional role for coaches, teachers, bodyworkers, yoga teachers, and fitness instructors. It is not a therapeutic role. More info…

Certified BCR Group Teacher (Level III) – Teach BCR to groups of clients or students, with regulatory and skill-building intentions.  This is a professional role for those who lead or teach groups. It is not a therapeutic role. More info…

Certified BCR Therapeutic Practitioner (Level IV) – Use BCR with individual clients, holding regulatory, sill-building, diagnostic, and therapeutic intentions. This is a therapeutic role and requires an advanced degree in a mental health field. More info 

Certified BCR Therapeutic Group Leader (Level V) – Teach BCR in therapeutic group settings, with regulatory, sill-building, diagnostic, and therapeutic intentions. This is a therapeutic role and requires an advanced degree in a mental health field.  More info…

Certified BCR Therapeutic Trainer (Level VI) – Use BCR in therapy sessions with individual clients and groups, with regulatory, sill-building, diagnostic, and therapeutic intentions. And: train practitioners individually or in groups to use BCR within their scopes of practice.  This is a therapeutic role requiring an advanced degree in a mental health field and experience leading therapy groups. Certification Levels in Detail

Certified BCR Peer Teacher (Level I)

Teach BCR practices one-on-one to your peers: friends, family, and colleagues with intentions for regulation, connection, and self-determined work on the four skills for embodied relating and the nervous system. This is a peer teaching role. It is not a therapeutic or professional role. 

This certification means you are capable of teaching the BCR exercises to peers. You are not expected to be responsible for tracking your partner’s dysregulation or knowing how to re-regulate them. Both partners are responsible for themselves.

Scope of Practice: Teach and use BCR in one-on-one peer relationships for regulatory purposes.
Competency Areas: Co-regulation skills, peer relating, cultivating safety, self-reflection.
Pre-requisites: none
Requirements

  • Complete 1 BCR class series
  • Log 12 buddy sessions (with a peer, not a client, patient, or student) including the required exercises.
  • Two assessment/feedback sessions with Beth or a trainer (1/2 hr each)
  • Completed Application Form (Level I)
  • Commit to the BCR Core Values and Code of Ethics

Application fee: $50, covers the 2 half-hour feedback sessions.
Next Steps

  1. Indicate your intention to apply for Level I by email, here.
  2. Register for a class series, if you have not previously enrolled. 
  3. Consider who in your life to approach for practice sessions. 
  4. You will receive an email from us with your Google Drive link and session log forms. Please add this email address to your contacts to avoid losing it to spam filters. 
  5. Begin logging your buddy practice sessions once you have begun the class series. 
  6. Schedule 2 half-hour feedback sessions with Beth, one before completing your application, class, and session logs, and one after. 
  7. Complete and submit your application and session logs via your GoogleDrive folder. Sign and submit your agreement to the BCR Code of Ethics. Submit the application fee. 

Certified BCR Coach (Level II)  

Teach BCR to your clients/students, with regulatory and skill-building intentions. This is a professional role for coaches, teachers, bodyworkers, yoga teachers, and fitness instructors. It is not a therapeutic role. For more information about this certification program email us

Certified BCR Group Teacher (Level III)

Certified BCR Therapeutic Practitioner (Level IV) 

Use BCR with individual clients, holding regulatory, skill-building, diagnostic, and therapeutic intentions. This is a therapeutic role and requires an advanced degree in a mental health field.

Scope of Practice:  Teach and use BCR one-on-one as a therapist with regulatory and therapeutic intent.
Competency Areas: Peer/ professional relating: power dynamics and authenticity, Cultivating safety, Self-reflection, Addressing burnout issues, BCR case construction, repair.
Prerequisites: Level I BCR Certification, Masters-level (or higher) degree in psychotherapy (or by permission).
Requirements

  • Log 20 client sessions that include BCR practice with therapeutic intent
  • Complete 2nd class series, student emphasis on therapeutic intent
  • Two assessment/feedback sessions with Beth or a trainer (1 hr. each)
  • Completed  Application Form (Level IV)
  • Commit to the BCR Core Values and Code of Ethics

Application: $100 fee includes sessions with Beth

    3. Consider if you have clients with whom you can appropriately do this work.
